Liza Abelson

Liza is a painter and sculptor and she works in the mediums of stained glass and acrylic/oil painting.  Her paintings reflect her fascination with the beauty, complexity and spirit in every day things, situations and people

As with painting, her glass pieces are designed and created with a combination of planning, spontaneity and humor.  She uses the copper-foil technique and her stained glass studio is completely lead-free.  The organic shapes she creates are formed with hand cut glass, metal and found objects.  Liza sees a strong connection between her current body of work and the large-scale, welded sculptures she did 20 years ago in which she explored abstractions of the figure.

She has been exhibiting publicly for over 17 years and is a graduate of Brandeis University.  Her paintings, sculptures and jewelry can be seen at art exhibits, retail shops, juried craft shows and galleries throughout New England

Liza is one of 30 artists featured in Cape Cod Life Magazine's special 2009 arts edition, Art of the Cape and IslandsMost recently, she received honorable mention for her painting "Reading Time With Spot" in the South Shore Art Center's Blue Ribbon Members Show (July 2009) and first place for "The Challenger" at the Arts Affair exhibit at Marina Bay in Quincy (August 2009). Another one of Liza's paintings was selected as the Center Fold in the September/October issue of Art Scope Magazine.
