Peggy Roth Major has lived in New England for many years & has found much of her daily inspiration in the land & sea around her. Her formal training began with a B.S. in Art at Springfield College where her exploration into mediums such as clay, paint & graphite all helped to cross pollinate her artistic expression & enrich her photographic images with greater depth & understanding.
She is currently working on a photography book in which she embraces a form of contemplative photography some refer to as "Miksang" (Tibetan for "Good Eye"). In her upcoming book’s Introduction she writes:
"I focus on things our conscious mind skims over because of memory or habit, and bring to light entirely new perspectives to my every day life. Through these intuitive observations, the true shapes of our world are presented for all to see. This form of meditation with a camera has given me a way to slow down, relax, and feel grounded in a world of aggression and clutter…I have always taken the perspective of looking deeply at the simple things and not limit myself to preconceived ideas of how life is supposed to be. Often I find new worlds, new feasts for the eye that have been waiting to be acknowledged and appreciated.
This collection is in some ways a visual autobiography of my personal experiences through these interpretations of ordinary moments that ‘"caught my eye". It tells the story of my life long love affair with the water, rocks, sand, sky and all things that surround me wherever I go…""
Her work has received numerous awards in many local & national exhibits including Best in Shows, Awards of Excellence and Blue Ribbons. She is currently a member of the North River Art Society, Center for Fine Art Photography, The Duxbury Art Association & is a Gallery Artist at the South Shore Art Center. Her solo shows have been reviewed in local publications with great praise of her eye for composition & beauty in the simple things found every day. She works primarily in natural light using digital SLR cameras & incorporates computer technology into the process, which adds to the fluidity of her creativity.
